A short blog this time round as I've been very busy getting ready to promote my new publishing club. For those directed here via my leaflets, posters or posts on social media, Welcome! Thanks also to those friends of mine that have already been supportive in the past and have helped yet again by delving into their impressive lists of people the local writing community.
So the plan at the moment is to draw up a list of those that have written at least one novel and are waiting to get it out into the wild. Or those that have passed that step already and have it published via Amazon, traditionally or via hybrid publishers who share the costs in return for a higher royalty. I'd love to hear how that is working out. For those that have managed to get a traditional publishing agent, especially from one of the well known publishing houses, then I congratulate you - your experience, whether good or bad, would be incredibly useful to the rest of us.
If you're interested or just want to get in touch, then either sign up to my mailing list, or email me via adamcapello888@gmail.com
It is a hard slog to get your book read and even harder to make positive sales. It might seem a little businesslike to talk about sales, but more sales equal more readers, so if you are doing this as a source of income or because you have the desire or need to write and be heard, we still need to push our books.
I once read an article called, 'No One Wants to Read Your Shit', which sounds harsh, but it starkly points out the difficulty in getting people to read anything longer than a sentence, never mind a book of 80k works by someone they've never heard of before.
This club is to collaborate - to work together in a world of tv celebs and instagrammers getting bored and suddenly getting a book deal to push their ghostwritten or heavily polished words into most of the books that populate our bookshops and talk about it on the BBC. I'll let you know how it goes.
All the best,
Mark
